Yeah, he was, but I still didn't get it. The ad clearly says it fits all the different size models. So I didn't get what he was making fun of.

Looking at the Max microfiche I have the "combination switch" 61 31 1 351 219 that was used up to 9/1973. Plus, of course, the brake switch. Mounted on the throttle housing. Later models I'm not sure of. Do newer models have other switches mounted on the throttle or beside it? I'm thinking newer models require a different throttle housing unless you want to rewire a bit. Yes?

In this case I was not being facetious. Read my post literally and you will see. I just tried to say that the R50/5, R60/5 and the R75/5 had the same throttle in any given year. While I was mostly concerned with the issue, that of diameter, it also included the rest of the throttle aspects. However, I forgot to limit my statement to those imported into the USA.

The throttle was delivered to some other countries slightly differently.

I have always railed against modifying the casting to fit it to another diameter. I tried to cover this issue quite well in my article at http://w6rec.com/duane/bmw/control/ Did I forget something, or print an error?

I do know that I have one omission in the throttle, but I don't yet know the history, so I haven't edited that article to include more information. The throttle cover can be long or short on some of the /5 series and I don't know why it happened, but I have seen two cases of the short cover fitting a USA bike.

Does anybody know the how and why of this anomaly?

Another error of mine is that I don't have a used throttle listed on eBay right now. I checked it after posting my error. I do have one that I removed from my daily rider and it will be for sale shortly.

Mostly, I am trying to list the larger items to get rid of bulky stuff that clogs up the shop. I am running out of time and can pack up the small stuff for later listings. A few small items have been offered, usually due to my forgetfulness, or that someone asked for it. A few parts have gone away because I owed someone who did me a huge favor.

I still must list the frame, forks, engine lower end, transmission, swing arm and final drive. All of those are in very good condition, or at least that is my belief. I might find a surprise though. I built this bike some 30+ years ago and have forgotten a lot of what I modified, or why.

I just returned from a 6 day trip and am still trying to get caught up with chores and news. Sorry if I have mislead anybody, as it was accidental. I hope to get back to intentional misleading very soon.

Old style switches used up to 1974 look like this: Image and their brake clutch switches will look like this: Image You can get away with using a 1974 /6 specific one year only perch, but there are differences in the way the mirrors mount (different mirrors too) and the levers are different in that they were black from the factory instead of bare aluminum. The new ones do have a brake switch in addition to the "combination switches", but it is much smaller and the combination switches are way more expensive! Totally different perch required as well. See the smaller brake and clutch switches? Number 3 in this picture: Image Using later model perches on a /5 is doable, but there will be some rewiring required!
