Yeah, that's a good question. Certainly there's nothing like having a big 21" out front when your'e getting into really gnarly terrain, but I've now had a couple of Super-motos that I'll take out pretty deep into the single-tracks and I've been surprised at how well they manage. I'd suggest that 17" wheels do a better job in many off-road situations than a 21/18" combo generally does on-road...
