Help - 1971 R/50 Barnfind
Re: Help - 1971 R/50 Barnfind
It looks like a standard 6.5 gallon "touring tank", sans knee pads.

Don't know what you're looking at, Khittner, but, yes, She'llbe, that's exactly what it is . . . at least according to ME 109 on the other thread. I think ME made the mistake of answering your question on the wrong thread.khittner1 wrote:It looks like a standard 6.5 gallon "touring tank", sans knee pads.
Here's what he said:

I was looking at Audiowize's green tank, not the one in StevenD's linked page. Sorry.

REALLY a 1971 R/50?
Replacement side covers? Did your bike come with side covers? I don't think the 1971 R50/5 came with side covers.jagarra wrote:When I was looking for replacement side covers I bought one off e-bay that was painted German police green. When I compared to some models of Jaguars I had that were British Racing green they were about a perfect match. I thought about painting my bike BRG, but in reality I prefer traditional black.

Yeah, I think side covers started in '72. Still, I'd be tempted to throw some on...
Re: Help - 1971 R/50 Barnfind
There are tabs on the later subframes that the side cover clips onto. I'm pretty sure the earlier subframes didn't have them.audiowize wrote:Yeah, I think side covers started in '72. Still, I'd be tempted to throw some on...

Yes, I can see with that pretty paint the side covers would add to overall looks. I also see that some of the covers had numbers on them...............600, 750, etc. You have some exciting choices to make.audiowize wrote:Yeah, I think side covers started in '72. I'm just tryin' to keep oil inside mine. It has more problems than a math book.

So your bike being a 1971 it does not have vacuum ports. The Bing Agency can install VTO on our 32mm carbs. Or they explain how to do it and sell the parts. Or sync the carbs by ear. That's not my choice since I have two into one exhaust. I'm going by intuition.daz wrote:Yes, I can see with that pretty paint the side covers would add to overall looks. Ear, for a two into one.daz wrote: Or sync the carbs by ear. That's not my choice since I have two into one exhaust.
Ears, for a twin.
