Betsy will never be for sale but am curious as what price a super clean example might be worth these days in Oz...DucatiPete wrote:I don't think there's much question about that! (considering the starting point)Toga wrote:I can see my slim budget being swallowed very quickly.
But affairs of the heart rarely come in under budget...
Some time last year I thought I saw a '79rs in reasonable original condition go for $6k... but yeah, not apples for apples...

Re: '82 R100RS 1MK Restoration
Amidst that last round of work I did a tidy up on the oem lower triple clamp. Grind down the square edge mold marks & a bit of a shine -
Fibre glass repairs are 95% done, I say that because im sure ill find that little something else ... after I found a lot something else -
No less than 14 areas required some sort of attention. I found 5 cracks that were all the way threw to the point of something else not far from breaking.
The insert on right lower fairing has been replaced. That same retaining lug on the left however was cracked threw requiring a delicate hand not to snap the whole lug off during grinding & sanding back prep.
'Dished out' on both sides I also drilled several holes all the way threw to allow the resin to create a sort of locking / binding pin to both sides.
Glassed & rough sanded to shape - *boy ow boy was I rough
Bogged & final sanding to shape -
Same process's for the other pieces, except the right side required several attempts to get a decent adhesion with no air bubbles in the main thickness....
Creating a new tab for centre lower fairing -
The swing arm should be ready to pick up this week reassembled with a new uni joint on the drive shaft.
Today I spent 6 hours cleaning & repairing my ultra modern painting booth in readiness for the body art work.
I dont have internal lights or heating so, again, this may take / have to wait a while for these late summers rains to dissipate.
Next step, 3 litres of molasses for the petrol tank !
Again, no mint or show room quality workmanship... but I continue to be very happy with what ive done so far.
Just over 6 months till deadline.

I mentioned earlier that Betsy would be getting a custom seat cowling roundel,

Re: '82 R100RS 1MK Restoration
Toga, You are sure putting a lot of work in her. Did you do any research on how to repair the SMC body work? It's a different animal from regular fiberglass.
Re: '82 R100RS 1MK Restoration
Thanks PAS.
To be honest, in all my reading - including fairing repairs, I have never heard of SMC until your post. I will have to check up on it tonight... though I dont think I am in much of a position to change anything now, unless I uncover some startling evidence that makes a rethink in order.
Any extra info you can to offer on SMC, PAS ?

Re: '82 R100RS 1MK Restoration
All I know is that it is different then regular fiberglass and requires an epoxy based repair. I did a repair on my 81 RT years ago and it popped loose after awhile. If your close to a snowmobile or jet ski dealer ask them about repairing.
