Man, Bing seems to be a good vendor. I basically got a fresh set of guts for the accelerator pump, and the carb manual for the BMW carbs. I probably should've done this to begin with...

For now, I suppose I can set the float levels, then sit and wait for parts.

Finally, it's time to put all the oils back in, and to attempt to buy some LL100.

Well, I've gone for a few short (and a few long) rides so far on the bike.

The bike idles well, and I feel like I get good power through the first 1/2 of the throttle range, but above that, the bike bogs down and slows until I let off the throttle. Sadly, the tach is a little erratic, so I can't report the reading where this starts.

I plan to buy/borrow a timing light to be sure the advance is engaging. I also tried adjusting the mix screws to allow additional fuel in, but this has not solved the problem.

Come to think of it, with a type 53 slide carb, wouldn't this mostly come down to fuel level in the bowl and a clean carb to suck up enough fuel to run the motor?

Well, yes, kinda, but....

Remember, "not enough fuel" can have many causes: blocked lines, blocked needle valves, blocked fuel filters, blocked jets, wrong jets, float bowl level, diaphragm leaks (on carbs that have them), air leaks, . . . not turning on the gas - not filling the gas....

So, don't just assume it's one of the one or two most likely.

Yeah, the lines are new, the needle jets are new, (no fuel filters), jets are new, no diaphragms.

Air leaks did cross my mind, so I took some starting spray and sprayed where the carb attached to the cylinder without any results. (I sure wish it had been that)

I should tweak the float levels. On a type 53, the Bing book refers to the position of the float itself, but not necessarily measuring the level itself.

Another piece of information that led me to the fuel level was that riding up a hill of any incline grossly exacerbates this issue.

These are some samples of things I've built. I started tinkering when I was 16, and I haven't stopped since. I'm still not super proficient with circuit design, but I can teach people how to build pretty well.

Unfortunately, not much of this translates to dialing carbs in :(

I would suspect either a too low of float level or too low of a needle. I like to take carbs off and hold them upside down to ensure the float is closed via gravity, I like to see a parallel line between top of float and base of carb body.
I your needle position is set too low, lower the clip to raise it to give you more fuel. Again, try one thing at a time.
