R100RT Front suspension question

Post by ChuckyShamrok »

Hi, My father asked me to replace his fork seals on his 81' R100 RT. After dropping the sliders off the forks, a black rubber like ring came out of the left slider. There wasn't one at all in the right slider. What are these called? I assume its a bump stop for the spring that resides in the slider. I obviously need to buy two new ones, as one is AWOL and the other is cracked all the way through. I can't really find it on the microfiche.
I smoke my last cigarette and swear to god it's been fun.

Not really an O-Ring, like a bushing. Slid up the fork perfectly, maybe a 1/4" thick. I have a lousy picture of itImage

Perhaps a home engineering project. Not familiar with that piece at all.
Not that that means anything of course.

That piece doesnt belong in the forks. Can you post a picture of all the components in one leg in the order they were installed?
I also have an 81 R100RT

Its reminiscent of a lower fork bumper. Flat on top and rounded on the bottom. Maybe homemade.

It has Brembo's. I'm pretty sure it's home made. But all the components, as they came out were: Metal Spacer ->Spring->Mystery Black bushing

Looks like an anti dive set up. Did it look like this? I think the bumpers are BMW 31422000384
