R100rs lower fairing swap offer

Post by ibjman »

I currently have an ad up in the MOA flea market asking for a swap of my fairing lowers (including engine protection bars) for a set of lowers that have no bar holes:
http://bmwmoa.org/fleamarket/id/9231/cid/8/p/1.aspx

Please view the ad & let me know if you might like to ad a set of protection bars to yours at little or no cost.
My lowers are not perfect, but we can discuss and exchange photos.
Please let me know if there's anyone interested.
Thanks, Ibj...

I did obtain a set of satisfactory lowers in exchange for my used bars and lowers set. Although they required a number of small repairs (most used plastic does). I'm very happy with my amateur results.
Because I didn't want to pay big bucks for custom ordered Glasuite or other specialty paint, I just took my sample to my local Napa Dealer and spent a couple of hours pouring over selections of color chips till I found what looked like a good match. (Wife says I'm color blind....lol) The counter guy mixed me up a half pint while I waited.
I obtained a small HVLP "hobby" spray gun from Harbor Freight.....and set off to the shed with what seemed like reams of assorted sandpapers and various repair supplies.
The first shoot seemed a bit too light or bright when compared to the original main fairing.......so I made up a small portion of the original Napa mix and added a substantial dose of Generic Black that the Napa guy mixed up for my 98RT.
The second shoot was better and after a little tinkering with dusting on a third mix of the silver & black around the edges for shading......I found a happy result. Last I shot on 4 fairly heavy coats of clear (all with the $8.00 spray gun).
I am waiting till later to color sand and polish until the paint has completely gassed out.
I have to tell you that I am very rewarded by the result on a project that I was all but sure that would be a failure.
I don't have a spray booth or ANY painting experience.
Sometimes it's better to be lucky than smart!

Well, the picture isn't perfectly clear and sharp enough to tell what it would look like in real life, but from what I can see, my "comment" would be: Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Gee Major,
I'm not sure if Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. means "good Job, Ibj" or "looks like #$*& to me.
