ignition switch and proximity kill switch project

I need some others thoughts on this. I bought all the parts needed but just want to double check with one's who would know about how feasible this would be. I plan on replacing my ignition switch with two switches (in parallel) two act as the two different on positions of the oem ignition switch. Also add a kill switch that powers a RFID sensor (think proximity/smart key on newer cars). That sensor would be hooked up to a relay that is wired to the blue wires that were originally jumpered inside the starter relay that provide power to all other electronics on the bike except to the starter. (sorry for the grammer) Perfect to use as a kill switch circuit. So basically I would walk up to the bike, flip the ignition switches on in sequence. Then flip the kill switch on, which would power the proximity sensor that would read the key fob in my pocket and allow the bike to be started. So no matter what some did (switch wise) they would not be able to start the bike with out the proximity/smart key. Any thoughts??

Many years ago, I read an article in a motorcycle magazine about motorcycle locks and alarms. The article began by saying: "The first and most important thing to remember is: if a couple gorilla like men with a pickup truck want your motorcycle, it's gone."

So, I wouldn't devote an inordinate amount of energy into efforts that would still not stop that scenario.

This is more of a novelty project. It will only help prevent someone from driving off with it. I understand that if someone really wants it they can just load it up haul it off.

Sounds cool. Very few in the motorcycle thief demographic care much about 20-40yr. old airheads.

True but this is not a restoration project. It's a custom bobber project.

If you're already up to special electrics then the rest must be done. When can we see some photos?

So when the new system fails to start on a cold rainy morning......how difficult is it going to be to diagnose the problem.
Maybe a padlock would be a better option?

ibjman's point is a good one. If this is just for the "cool factor," then I'd make sure it's easily defeatable in case of a problem.

We learned an almost universal rule concerning accessory electrics on our BMW bikes. The more that one adds, the more trouble one has.

I would say that you are about 100 times more likely to have electrical trouble with this scheme than to prevent a thief from taking it.

As a hobby project, it matters none. It is your bike and do as you wish. Enjoy.

All this started because I need a new ignition switch (missing key). All the parts for this total up to $17 as apposed to $150-$200 for replacement switch. Contrary to how it sounds this is actually a very simple design (unless I missed something) and would be very easy to bypass in the field to diag any issues. I'll post pics later. I'm working on multiple things with this at the same time. Between waiting on ordered parts I tinker :D
