Simple: K&N are red. Those are blue, made by Green.

For a long time I have been fascinated with warrantee claims. This air cleaner says it is guaranteed for one million kilometers. Guaranteed to do or not do what?

Years ago, I noticed a very interesting claim by a bicycle manufacture. The common guarantee on bicycle frames was "lifetime". One company came along with their guarantee on the frame of "one hundred years". It was bullshit but catchy. After hearing "lifetime" several times in a day of bicycle shopping, when a prospective customer heard "one hundred years", they must have related to that figure on a more real level. I have no idea how much, if any, difference that claim made but it did stand out as a trick in my estimation.

A friend who works at a Honda car dealership told me about "guaranteed for life" disc brake pads from a big muffler/brake company. He said the pads are very hard and they wear out the rotors faster than the softer pads. Of course, that's false economy.

My assumption (yes, always dangerous) is that it is guaranteed to keep doing what it does for one million k. So, one would think that if it falls apart before then, they have to replace it (possibly at a pro-rated cost, like tires, but probably not). If it doesn't work worth a crap and destroys your motor, I don't see how that would be a warranty issue since you could still put into another motor and ruin it.

As Funbags used to say, wipe the filter box and looky see.
Well, he didn't say looky see. That was me.
I've run both and report less dust with a K+N.
I know my dust. Bulldust especially.

K&N, red, blue or green always gets some great responses. :D

All objective testing proves otherwise. Not even K&N claims they filter as well as OEM.

My last test with a paper filter was 12 months ago. 1500 k trip over three days, 500 was dirt.
My airbox was dirty when I got back. I was surprised.

The testing I was speaking of is comparative, and objective. There are many examples available where different filter designs are tested side-by-side, on the road and in labs, both by private individuals and by various magazines, and I have never yet seen results which did not show pleated gauze as one of the best flowing filters and one of the worst filtering. In every test I've seen OEM filters are more restrictive, but better at filtering.

Personal anecdotes leave lots of unknowns. While they may appear convincing to that individual, if the person has not established any control for comparison, it's simply not meaningful.
