Sometimes it's cheaper on eBay for items they sell a lot of or if they are trying to clear out old stock. They will combine shipping on multiple purchases, and gave me a prompt refund when one item was accidentally left out of a shipment. Either way, they are usually cheaper than MaxBMW.
Actually from what it appears, the eBay listing is for the seat unit, the roundel, and the rubber (?) surround for the hand holds. The Meyer listing is for the seat alone.

Woo hoo!! Thanks for all the info everyone!

I bought one of the RS copies from Meyer several months ago. Cost about $500 (CDN) landed here in Canada. Very comfortable, more so than the other café seat that Meyer sells, (not as hard) The only problem is the handles (covers in BMW-speak) They are no longer available according to BMW Canada, Meyer themselves and Motobins in the UK. I bought some from boxercafe.com and although inexpensive ($10 /ea ) one side had a less than perfect finish, which is to be expected in a small, thin, piece of hand laid fiberglass. Meyer does not include the Roundel, although when I bought mine, the web site showed a roundel and Meyer shipped me 1 at no charge, then changed the photo on the web site. They include hinges, although I modified my seat ala Duane's site for lift off. Were I to do it again, I'd investigate the cost of having a pair of handles/covers scanned and 3-D printed, since boxercafe implied they were dropping the item from their line. Or, if I felt lucky, I would buy the 'glass seat frame from boxercafe and the upholstered seat and base (very good quality) from Meyer. Boxercafe makes a seat frame that incorporates the cover indents, as well as a smooth version with no "covers". Finally, I bought some of those tacky (both literally and figuratively) door edge trim/guards to finish off the lower edge of the seat frame.

Thanks for the info.

I looked at Boxercafe, and what they offer seems to be more of a kit than I'm prepared to deal with. I just moved, and several factors have me favoring "heat & serve" over "made entirely from scratch". I guess a little more investigation is in order, like giving them a call.

Very good information-- the more I read it, the more what I've seen on Meyer & BW makes sense. One thing, though: what is the rubber-looking item with the label in the photo on the Meyer site? That part makes no sense. Yet.

What do you mean by feeling lucky?

Do you mean this?

It's the trim for the "handles" recessed into the seat.

Note that the rubber trim is just that; you can see clear through the seat without the "handles" which is probably why BMW calls them "covers" It isn't clear in the Meyer site, but you can see the underside of the upholstery through the trapezoid? holes in the sides of the seat. By "lucky" I meant buying the seat frame (with the handles/covers a part of the seat frame) from boxercafe and mating it to the seat base and upholstery from Meyer. If you are mating Arkansas and Bavarian technology, luck will play an important role. (Understand that the hinges and seat lock are integral with the seat base. and the seat frame cowl, etc. are just for cosmetic purposes.)
