I guess if you use heater hose that you'll also need a bigger cone, those locusts are pretty big.

Mine cracked off too Boxertwin -- I found that a slight shrug of the shoulders was all that was required.

I also had a replacement crack in a short time. I used the electrical solution. But not 25 wraps. I left the rubber on and just made a few wraps over it. Cheaply replaced as needed.

I looked into some shrink tubing to go over the rubber, but the size needed was rather expensive in the length available. I don't know of a place local that would have sold me just a few inches.

Might just give the heater hose a shot the next time my tape wears out!

I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.

How about using a dozen or so o-rings. 1/8" diameter cross section and the appropriate diameter to be tight on the lever. Should last a long time.

Sorry for the serious answer

Make sure (if you don't go the heater hose or tape route) to buy genuine OEM rubber. I learned that from a set of gaiters I bought that cracked in one year in benign conditions. There was no BMW logo on them and the only thing imprinted on them was "Italy".

Some parts purveyors are kinda coy about their sources for rubber parts.
