I bought a set of roundels from a BMW motorcycle dealer, they were OK. I found a better quality set from a BMW auto dealer, part # 36131181079, they were made for the wheel centers so they have a tough finish on them. You can check them out on the picture of my bike in the picture of our bikes section. I think they look better than the ones from the dealer, they are the same size, about the same price.

Thanks all. I'll head to the local BMW car dealer and see what they have. The hubcap roundels would seem to be a likely candidate for a BMW auto dealer to have in stock.

And if all else fails I can go to Big Twin BMW and have them order some M/C roundels for me.

These are usually pretty expensive but here is a link to a VERY reasonable price from a dealer:

If it's not from an authorized BMW dealer there is a 99% chance it is not actually a BMW factory part. If you look up the review of these roundels on eBay and Amazon (the ones that go for <$10) it is apparent you get what you pay for. Complaints abound regarding the adhesive failing and the badge blowing off on the freeway to parking the bike in direct sunlight for an afternoon and the rondell slides down the tank halfway. Most of the complaints are about the fact that the knockoffs are not UV coated and they bleach if left in the sun for a couple of hours.

The link I've posted is the cheapest 70mm from a real BMW dealer I've ever seen.

Yesterday I went to the local BMW Car dealer for some 70mm emblems. I wanted the ones that were prettier. Unfortunately the dealer didn't have them in stock. I'll check again some time and ask for a special order in case they're still not in stock. He did have roundels which looked to be a dead ringer for the ones I took off, except these were un-yellowed and had a different adhesive. They were only about $2.50each so I bought all 4 that he had. I will go back soon and see if I can get the 'prettier' ones. They will likely cost much more, but I'm not trying to cut corners, especially on a bike with a brand new smoke red (approximately) paint job.

Tomorrow my 'kid' brother Terry will likely come over to work on his bike in my shop. (Don't ask what brand name!) So, as he's working on his bike I'll likely be swapping the newly painted parts onto my '77 S bike.

By the way, my brother is getting into airheads. I gave him a '82 (I think) R100 RT which I had sitting in a screened roofed enclosure adjacent to the shop proper in Oklahoma. Unfortunately he didn't tie the bike down in my trailer very well and on the way back the bike fell against a wooden crate. Travel created multiple dents to the tank. Luckily I have a replacement tank in stock so I can get him going again (after my next trip to Oklahoma). Then I will surely try some body and fender work on the dented tank because, well because, that's how I seem to roll. I will be willing to put work into a tank that I'll likely never use myself because, well because, I couldn't stand to have that 'hurt' tank hanging around making me feel bad.

By the way, my brother felt like crap about not tying down the bike well enough.

By the way #2, the bike seen in my Avatar is the one getting the new 'clothes'.
