Cool deal. Did I read where the battery is about the engine? Are you running a small battery?

Lithium batteries behave differently than lead-acid batteries.
Here's the scoop from TurnTech's site:

"The batteries don’t provide as much power initially as a lead acid battery at low temperatures (40F or 3-4C). HOWEVER, the battery will self heat during the pulse, as the battery warms it provides more amps. The battery will get stronger rather than weaker as more starting attempts are made. Once the battery has warmed it will provide full power regardless of the outside temperature. The colder it is the more pulses that will be needed, for instance at 40ºF one pulse may be needed (or a 5-8 second starting pulse) at 0ºF you will need 4-5 pulses to warm the battery."

Obviously this battery is a "bare-bones" weight saving alternative –
and not well suited for regular road or touring duty.
In light of the design objectives, entirely possible that I will ditch the starter, too.
R100s start quite easily "flat-track style"

I know you posted info on these batteries before http://www.turntechbattery.com/TurnTech ... lcome.html but I thought at the time you where going to do without a starter and I never read up on them.

That is an impresive kick from such a tiny little battery. :geek:

Fingers are crossed, and I'm hoping that the tiny thing will spin a starter !

240 CA is about 200CCA which is the minimum needed to crank an airhead with a PMGR starter. Sooo once you are in perfect tune and it's not too cold out you should be be good to go.

You can allways have some form of plug in booster for starting at home on those chilly mornings.

And I like how the battery improves after a couple of tries.

Spinning the starter a couple times in the cold will get the Lithium battery warmed to temp
Once the battery is warmed, it will deliver the full rated (240 in this case) CA.
Synthetic lubricants will certainly aid the viability of cold temperature starting !
"CCA" will be a term that does not apply to Lithium batteries as it does to lead-acid types.
Lithium batteries also do not "wear down' as a lead-acid will – it works full capacity ... then it's dead !
