I just received these in the mail, and I have to say I'm impressed. At first, it looked like they had a kind of cheesy plastic coating, but then I realized it's a protective layer for shipping and it peels off. The emblems themselves look almost like the enamel ones; the letters and silver parts of the roundel are raised, and appear more robust than the originals as a result. Time will tell...

BMW doesn't make parts, they order them from contractors, just like every other vehicle manufacturer. I used to be able to buy them directly from the contractors. Are those parts not BMW factory parts? I usually could buy them for 5-10% of the BMW price and that was delivered and duty paid. I was buying new Bing carbs for $5.

Maybe things are quite different today.

I had to get a new drive shaft while on a cross country ride about 35 years ago. I ended up in Boise at the then BMW shop and had to wait a week for the shaft. The guys that owned the shop let me stay at their house while waiting for the parts. The owners were ex harley riders that had seen the light. I wonder if they are the same guys. I suppose they'd be getting a little long in the tooth by now.

A word of caution on relying on the adhesive film to hold those BMW auto roundels on, they have a tendency to raise in the center after awhile. I ended up putting a dap of RTV on the back side and used strong magnets to hold them while they cured.

They won't be the same people, though I can't be positive about that. There have been 2 BMW dealers in Boise that I know about. The current dealer is Big Twin the name of which does not allude to Harley Davidson. There is one person at Big Twin who speaks airhead (fluently). The others behind the parts counter start looking around in a panic when you say 'airhead'.

The previous BMW dealer, whose name I can't remember, (Birds-of-Prey) perhaps, probably was in business deep into the 1980's. The dealer was, I believe, incompetent. I have encountered three airheads that have had the wrong 'ride-off' center stands fitted to them (two currently owned by me and one by my brother in law). All three (R100's) were fitted with ride-off stands made for a R 65. Apparently the dealer thought one stand fit all (although they had to see that they didn't fit worth a damn on R100's). You could actually slightly rock the bike side to side when on the ride off stand. It takes about an inch spacer welded to the bottom of the stand to make it work.
