I’ve just removed the original instrument pod and replaced it with an aftermarket electronic unit mounted in a Slash Five type headlight bucket. I’m delighted with the result.
As a parting gesture to the old unit, which has provided endless entertainment over the years, I decided to finally investigate what is happening in there electrically. Here is the result, hopefully in a form that any idiot could understand. Even me.
I don’t know which models have used the same printed circuit and pin arrangement. I’ve added the funny colours to the printed circuit so they match the wires that connect to it. I have tried to indicate where the wires head off to when they leave the hose coming from the pod plug. I hope this is helpful to somebody out there. I certainly could have used something like this when I was troubleshooting.
If you would like this diagram in PDF form just shoot me an email and I’ll send it. The PDF can be printed in A4 or A3 size.

Very nice Charlie.
It took a minute to orientate to the "underside" view.
Then I was wondering if the idiot light column was upside down? Indicators at the top, brake failure at the bottom? Am I still disoriented?

Ah Steve, I've confused somebody already. The printed circuit is flipped over right to left, like this -SteveD wrote:Very nice Charlie.

Re: Slash Six Instrument Pod Wiring
Yep...figured that one as it's the underside view, but is the top idiot light the brake failure or the indicator?
I know the top one on the later models was the indicator, between the speedo and tacho lamps.
....your diagram has the indicator at the bottom.
Top to bottom should be :
turn
oil
gen
neutral
brake failure

Re: Slash Six Instrument Pod Wiring
Well, holy sheepshit. Mine has the idiot lights the other way round - indicators on the bottom.
ps: Steve, if you've got an old dead one from the later models I'll happily draw it up.

Pics please.
I need to do something with my /5's instrument and am looking for ideas.

G'day Charlie,
That's a really nice diagram that you've designed there' well done.
I didn't realise, but BM must have reconfigured the idiot lights a few times, My 85 R80 goes like this
(with colours)
Turn green
Oil red
Gen red
Neutral green
H/Beam blue
I have no brake level ind

Re: Slash Six Instrument Pod Wiring
Thanks Bob. I guess having the indicator light at the top made it a lot more apparent to the rider - probably saved a few lives (and customers). I no longer have the brake fluid light. Seems silly, since I have the tank off so often.Bob Bennett wrote:G'day Charlie,
