Cafe Racer Parts for 1974 R90/6

Hi,

Does anyone know of a good, reliable source to order parts for my 1974 airhead R90/6?

I'm specifically looking for a cafe racer seat and also a top yoke and clip-on handlebars for my bike.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi 007 welcome. Before you start changing out what der fatherland has wrought, realize just how well designed they are for their intended purpose.

Also realize if you can keep it stock, you also keep you money!

Where are you located?
And are you looking for a vendor of OEM parts or aftermarket?
In the United States, I find Max's BMW to be a good dealer of OEM parts. I've dealt with them frequently and never been disappointed.

Regarding the changes you identified, ToasterTan makes beautiful top triple clamps, but are more pricey than others.

On Ebay, you can find CC/SanJoseBMW top triple clamps as well. I don't think they're as nice, but decent.

The fork tubes are 36mm, so if you're looking for clip-ons, there are plenty of generic ones out there for that size.
If you're looking to stick with handlebars, remember BMW uses 22mm bars, not 7/8". If you want to convert to 7/8" it will not only impact the mounts on the triple clamps, it will also affect everything else there (throttle tube, brake and clutch mounts and related switch gear and wiring. A R100RS handlebar is flat and narrow. Maybe something to consider.

But as mentioned above, you'll reduce the value of the bike and not get back out what you've invested.
If that's not an issue and it's just what you want to do, have fun.

Thanks for all of your input. I appreciate the good advice. I do think about the fact that it would lower the value of the bike when it's no longer stock, but I truly love the cafe racer look and it fits my style so to speak.

I'm located in Orange County, CA so was hoping to find a parts dealer in the U.S. but seems like a lot of parts I find on Ebay are coming from China or U.K., which may not be a bad thing, just a longer wait for the parts to arrive.

Thanks Mel, I'll have to reach out to jjwithers. Would be good to get some input on doing some of the tweaks I want to do to the bike.
