1997 R1100RT frame

Post by Mikegrayston »

Hi, I’ve just joined the forum having just bought an R1100RT of 1997 vintage, I’ve fancied a boxer to play with for a while but can’t afford an airhead! I know it’s probably sacrilegious but my plan is to build a cafe racer, I’ve spent 15yrs in the bike trade working with Japanese stuff so know my way around mechanical stuff. My question is;

Can I use a different frame neck/headstock on the RT as other models seem to have lower ones fitted?

I’m going to fit carbs and get rid of anything unnecessary and build a new subframe so won’t need a lot of what’s under the tank.

I don't know the answer to your question, but the project sounds really cool and I can't wait to see it!

I haven’t seen a lower one, and I’m not sure you can because of the alternator location. Other than that, about the only other things under there is the battery, moronic 2.2, and the ABS.
