Re Glue Motor Badge

In order to clean the corrosion and muck from the Starter Motor cover on my R80 I have removed the badges, now has anyone got a good sugestion on what adhesive is sucsesful at re attaching them, could not belive the gunk that was on them before I cleand them up.

Lost engine badges have always been an issue with the bikes that have them glued into place. My approach was to drill the badge and the engine cover (making sure that the it was in a place that doesn't affect the cover fitting on the crankcase. The holes in the cover are tapped to 4mm and those in the badges are 4mm countersunk. Two 4mm brass countersunk screws attach each badges to the cover and the screw heads are filled flat with the casting (and so invisible). May seem a lot of trouble to go to but those badges ain't going anywhere without the bike...

I use 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive. It's available in yellow, the original color, which we called Gorilla Snot BITD. Now it's also available in black which might be easier to use.

It also works for tank badges. I've found that the adhesive BMW provides on new badges doesn't stand up to gasoline.

Self tapper thru the badge, a dab of paint over the head.
