Change final drive on 73 R75/5

Post by Bisse »

Hi, my first post here.
I would like to swap my final drive from 33/11 to 32/11 and now I am wondering which bikes will be good/easy donors?

Well the ones that pop to mind are the first year R100RS (1977) and the R100T from 1979 and 1980. Most other bikes with that gearing are set up with a rear disc brake.

Are you running a bigger motor appropriate for the gearing? My R75 has 32/10 gears which fit it very well, either solo or with pillion. There's a buzzy spot around 4K rpm which is a mostly legal speed in top gear but it smooths right out at 4500 rpm which is a speed that does not attract undue attention. That same 4500 rpm would be a distinctly illegal speed with a 32/11.
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.
