Gear box fill

Post by danielhowden »

The manual shows a filler point near the gear lever but I only have this that looks more like a lever indicator. I guess manual is showing a different model. I have a 1978 R100s.

Is this right?

That plug is the hole for filling the transmission. Take plug out and use spout of your gear oil bottle to squeeze the oil into the hole. I forgot what it takes...750 ml? Anyway, monitor the oil level through the hole. When you begin to see the level come up to the bottom of the hole, fill until the oil just begins to run out. Quickly put the plug back in and wipe off the excess.

800ml from memory.
Both filler and level check!

If you're removing the trans drain plug, be aware it's magnetic. There will be stuff on it. Rub it between your fingers. If it feels rough and sharp...report back.
