Introduction and R80/7 ex police bike

Post by wolfram »

Hi All,

Just joined the forum as I have bought a 1977 R80/7 ex police bike from Mathewson's February auction.Image

The plan is to get it up and running for this season with as little work as possible, just safety items such as brakes etc. Then next winter I will restore it and get it to exactly the spec I want for next year.

Thanks Barry,

One has to buy them cheap, coz they cost way more than you think to restore! The photo's do flatter it a bit! But we have had it running and done the tappets. Carbs are off and I'm waiting on some rebuild kits. Its been stood for a long time I think. My last project was a Ducati I bought 10 years ago. That was in far worse condition! Image

I managed to get it to a good standard in the end Image

The fairing is off, and now I have to source some indicator stems. Also got to fathom the wiring, as there is an extra long loom to swap out. Seems to be an extra loom coming out of the headlight nacelle ending in a eight pin rectangular plug at the headstock - possibly blue lights?

I will be at both the Scottish motorbike show and Stafford show in the coming months to have a nosy round the stalls and vintage displays.
