Greetings airheads and BMW gearheads! Been a while, had to make a new account. Never mind. I have somewhat of an intellectual exorcise., (challenging for some I know). Her are sever thoughts and I welcome ALL comments.
Basic ways to improve performance and handling: 1977 R100/7 assuming 150 compression both sides and all other things functioning properly.
1. Horsepower; addition of non stock carburetors-Dell-Orto or other. Is this horsepower or response improvement?
2. Aftermarket air element; this is simply response to the carburetors? Horse power?
3. cutting away some or most of the air filter housing to facilitate better use of the after market air element.
4. Exhaust; after market mufflers. Horse power or just better breathing and helping the carb and air filter?
5. Replace stock starter for after market unit weighing less than stock.
6. Replacement of stock battery to new technology:AGM unit weighing less than half of stock? <http://www.shoraipower.com/s-50024-R1007.aspx>
7. carbon fiber or fiberglass front engine cover.
8. late model transmission and clutch
9. remove full fairing and replace with S fairing mounted to steering head.
10. performance front brake rotor.
11. late model front end, from mono shock model,(not sure of weight changes).
12 late model rear fender.
By losing some of the sprung weight and improving carburetion and exhaust I should be able to enhance handling and performance, no? I'm not sure there is any way to gain horse power without tuning the motor. Any suggestions? All bolt on and requiring only moderate adjustments.
the easy way?
