There is a cable-retainer on the inside of the LH headlight Ear, what is it for? (all of my cables are routed to the right of the headlight).

Re: Dumb /5 cable question
Usually the front brake cable goes there. It comes out of the control, across to that (left) side, down through the ear and back across to the right side of the fender.
Re: Dumb /5 cable question
Yep, it's for the right brake cable. The OEM cables come with a grommet that mounts there.

Re: Dumb /5 cable question
That said, you don't have to use it. As long as your cable runs smooth and does not bind, you don't have to follow the factory way.
Re: Dumb /5 cable question
On my currrent /5 and one of my prevoius ones there was no way I could get the cable across and through that clip. And they work just fine.Frog wrote:That said, you don't have to use it. As long as your cable runs smooth and does not bind, you don't have to follow the factory way.

Re: Dumb /5 cable question
On my bike, the cable does reach there. I run a lower bar and use euro bar cables. The bars I use have a gently rise and are lower than most slash five euro bars. They may be from a slash two. They are just right for me.
On my stock headlight ears, I had that cable attachment point, but it took some force to get the grommet seated. Then I changed the headlight ears to some earlier versions, as I had to cut them down for my custom top triple clamp (I did not want to cut my stock ears). Those came with a ring for the attachment point, rather than an open clip. I have never bothered to run the cable through it. I just use a gentle zip tie to the grommet.
My biggest issue is that my cable rubs on my fender. I have seen some bikes with a chrome wire loop on the lower triple to keep it at bay, but that would not work with my current routing.

Re: Dumb /5 cable question
I want lower "Euro" bars but when I called Vech he wanted $228.95 for "correct Euro" bars and that aint gonna happen!.
I got aftermarket bars MADE IN THE U.S.A.! by Flanders, they are actually for the R90S and were $87.00, when I change bars I will see about routing the cable "properly" (and I'm going to install gray GranTurismo grips).

Hucky's has reasonable prices on bars:

Mine are more like the Fehlings on that page, but are Magura. I think I bought them from Bob's a long time ago
