Tassie Trip report

G'day All
On the 12th March Alison and I started out on the annual Tassie trip, this time on the
bikes though.



With the bikes loaded at about 9.30 Sat am, it was beautiful riding weather and we headed south and
then west across to Bairnsdale in Vic where we stopped at a pub for the night. Some of the menu
items stunned me, untill I ordered a beer that is.


The next day we headed across to Melbourne via a road that runs south from Warragul to Korumburra,it is
a great ride, then up the South Gippsland Hwy into Melbourne where it rained, we got lost and my
battery went flat!!!!
Monday morning (public holiday!!) managed to score a battery though not the correct one (it was replaced
in Hobart), In the afternoon we were on the sea shore when our ship came in.


A short time later we were through Customs and on the boat for the overnight trip to Tassie.

I've visited about 6 times but on a bike only once .A bike ? A 1965 70cc Suzuki step thru from Bris to Hobart in August many years ago .I'd love to do it on Tilly !

Lucky bastards.
I'd love to ride around Tassie, but it'll be a few years before it happens. I've driven it, but it's a distant memory now.
Looking forward to the rest of the thread.
I've been told that the roads in Tassie demand that you don't go into the corner hard, and that it's imperative to setup well and drive hard out of the corner for maximum fun. So many corners that the day is short on distance but high on fun.

Ah Dougie!

It's so good to see that we havn't completely surrendered to north american popular food culture.
A Parma ( or Parmy.. depending on the literacy of the barperson !) is a derivative of Parmagiana, which in australian pub food means anything ( well more or less) thta has been preserved in a carapace of breadcrumbs and deep fried.. so could be chicken, veal, etc, but the treatment is so complete that the encased material may well be cat, rabbit or reconstituted boot!... the point of it, is value ofr money!... Anything else is by way of a bonus!... and a pot is a unit of currency in beer.... sim to a pint, a schooner , stubbie or even a slab!.. depending on the setting and the thirst.

I reckon that a worthwhile research project could be undertaken that compares Parma and Pot offerings in every country pub in Tassie... or anywhere else for that matter!..

Well done, you two. I hope you got over to the west, to that amazing set of bends near Queenstown. I'd really like to 'do' Tas on the bike one day.

I better have a real good go over the map 'cause I can't take it with me!

I've spent a lot of time pawing over as many copies of the map as I could find. .... not your copy, of course, Jeff.
Anyway, I know me way around pretty well, now. I reckon I could find the significant geological features blindfolded, with my hands tied behind me back.

Hi Blokes,
To answer a few things first. Jeff, it's best to bring ya map with ya to check it out in the evening prior to the
next days ride, well thats what I reckon. ZM, the Suzuki goes quite well though it's a little high in the center of
gravity. Steve, you're correct about the roads down here it is very easy to come into a corner too hot and the
advisory signs are inconsistant. Once you get used to conditions a great ride can be had. Doug, spot on about
the Parma & Pot, though havn't found it in Tas yet.
