Replacing felt pad on points base plate R80/7

Post by mase »

Has anyone replaced the pad on the base plate that rides on the lobe of the cam next to the points? Dealers want almost $174 dollars for the plate but it does come with $20 points? It's riveted on so I thought I could drill out the rivet and replace the pad but I'm not sure of what to use or where to get this material. Has anyone done this before? Comments appreciated

We never thought it to be important. That is because it never stays in contact and runs out of grease very quickly.

okay, makes sense since probably everyone now applies a little grease when installing new points to the shaft

I pop-riveted a strip of suede leather over the little arm and soaked it in oil. It worked quite well.
That points plate costs about $200 here in Oz.
