Oh for the love of the RS

Post by lomax »

I picked this up last winter and pretty much went through it. I have had many air heads but there is just something about this 84 R100RS that floats my boat.

This weekend I did about a 300 mile ride with a friend on his Ducati and he did not have to wait for me hardly ever.

The more I ride it the more impressed I am with the old girl. :D

Ready to take on the kids in South Park.

Yes Germans and Italians can get along. Who is that old fart standing by it. DOH I hate pictures of myself.

When I first started riding it my shoulders hurt quite a bit but I have installed "K" bars and that really made the difference. I did get some risers for it also but they turned out to be too short and the steering stabilizer adjustment bar was right in the middle of the top clamp. I could have taken it off but I hate to bugger a nice bike up.

That's a good looking RS, for sure!
I bought my '84 RS about six years ago and still love the old girl. Still have the stock bars on it.
Pic below has the Corbin seat I tried out. It was too stiff and replaced it with a stock one.
This place is a few miles from Ken in Oklahoma's place...

I love the RS cockpit feel. The powerband works well with the gearing too. The Brembo brakes are fantastic compared to the older airheads.
Someday, I may try the K bars. It is from a K75?

Yep the bars are from a K75. It really did help our a lot.

That is sure a pretty RS, What is the tank on the side for ? Extra fuel ?

I agree with you all about the gearing on these. I had a 74 R75/5 that was great. I also had a 76 R90/6 and a 84 R80RT that were just geared too low. They were happy at about 60 to 65 but I felt like I was wringing their necks much above that. The R100RS has no issues getting on down the road at speed.

That's a pair of one gallon each Luftmeister auxiliary fuel tanks. It's nice to have the extra
range from time to time.

No, they listened to, and responded to their North American customer base.

I wouldn't ride anything else.
I don't have anything else to ride, but that's beside the point.

Plenty of modern machines have found it best not to mess with an RS.

I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.
