Ah, I thought perhaps it was the fact that the bear had no helmet at all.

The smell issue is one about the product and that entire genre of products (and, I happen to share your opinion). It doesn't have to intrude on enjoying the commercial. Many of my favorite commercials are for products I would never buy.
