Installing /5 reenforced swing arm

Hi, I am hoping some one has installed the SJBMW reenforced swing arm on a /5 and can help me. I have installed this swing arm but with the swingarm centered it hits the part of the frame that the passenger foot pegs mount to.Any help on this would be appreciated.

I can't help specifically, but on my R90/6 the small triangular crossbrace that helps secure the footrest/exhaust fitting to one of the cross frame tubes was cracked, this can result in the footrest bracket flexing with all the loads that are on it. I'm not sure if this applies to your bike but worth checking as these brackets quite often crack.

Otherwise take a dremel and create some clearance!

What does SJ have to say about it?

There are some minor differances between a LWB /5 frame and a /6 and a /7 but I didn't think they where in that area. But then I was wrong once before, or perhaps I was mistaken.

I have emailed SJBMW but have not received a reply yet. Examination of the bracket has not shown anything wrong. It appears to be perfectly aligned. What is a real bummer is that I am restoring this bike and had installed the drive shaft and all other components to the swingarm before realizing the swingarm was supposed to swing past this bracket. I am not holding much hope for SJBMW because after all what can they say that will make a difference. I am now looking for a swingarm without a brace. I don't need the brace anyway.

Something could easily be "bent" and therefore interfere. Also, consider the possibility that the variation in frames is partially to blame. BMW didn't control more than the important points on frames, so some aspects (metal) will vary.

Weird, I posted a response this morning but it seems to be gone. Anyway I did email SJBMW but I don't hold much hope in their reply. After all what could they say that would make a difference. I examined the frame as critically as I could with eyeball and tape measure. Kind of easy to do at the moment since it is half disassembled. I couldn't find any variation to explain it. The part it hits is actually right where the exhaust mounts as you can see in the picture. I guess I am just going to search for a swing arm that does not have a brace. The bummer is that this one had been powder coated and I have mounted the driveshaft and other pieces to the swing arm already. So, a few steps backwards.

Bend the offending bracket outward to gain needed clearance.

Even a gentle tip over on the muffler can cause the bracket to "reposition". I'm with the idea of pulling it out a tad.

You might also look at the alignment of the drive shaft and transmission output shaft. Could be that the swingarm should actually be closer to the right side than the left instead of centered in the frame.
