Footboards for a /5

Has anyone toyed with the idea, or maybe even fabricated their own? I don't know of Bmw having
offered them as an option. After my last big tour I could have really done with a set.

BMW didn't offer them, but they were available from the aftermarket under the brand name "Henry's Floorboards". They show up on eBay and the IBMWR Marketplace on occasion.

Running boards are good here Rob. Although, most of my experiences are with running broads.

Have you got pillion pegs Jeff?
You can swing those pillions forward are far as they go, and if you have slightly large feet you can span the two pegs, riders and pillion.
I've been doing it for years, and having had running boards on my old Guzzi, it's much the same.

Typically, I rotate the pillion pegs forward and keep them higher than the riders pegs.
It's easy to get it right just by sitting on the bike on the centre stand.
Rotate the peg itself to suit the new position of the short pillion peg arm.
Equal foot load on the front and rear peg is the ideal.
It is then so much easier to stand up on the pegs and give it to the GS riders!

Cool, so I rotate/ reposition the riders peg also to suit me? I'm only a size 9, but it should work ok

I don't move the riders pegs.
If the pillion pegs are one notch too high or low, it makes all the difference.
I'm assuming your /5 has a similar peg set-up to my /7.

I find using the pillion pegs as well gives just as much support as a running board.
