no power from ignition

so i went to do a compression check, i had the plugs off and carbs off and plugs grounded to the the motor but i forgot to take off the continuity light from the condenser when i was checking the timing. i turned on the ignition and cranked the motor, then all of a sudden i heard a short(like a wiring burning with the smell) Now when i turn on the ignition on i get no power, the battery is charged and i noticed that once there was power to ignition but then i shortly died in a matter of seconds. Do you think i toasted the ignition switch. Where should i start because really frustrated
