Finally got out on the beloved RS (The Red Baron) for the first time since I had major surgery in April...boy felt good to say the least1
My "Marker" reference...I asked the surgeon "what kind of recovery time am I looking at?" He had an interesting answer " about 12 weeks or thereabouts I usually tell my patients, however, I like to put it as, what event or activity would you like to doing again that would signify to you that you're recovering...in other words, Bob, pick a "marker""
Thought about that for quite a while then my wife said "probably when you can get out for a ride"...she was right
So, 9 weeks later, finally took the Red Baron out for a ride and, to say the least, it was wonderful! Yipee...
Red Baron at Georgian Bay...
Sittin by the Bay....thinking how lucky I am to be doing this again
The "flat stone" beach at Big Bay..Stone skipping Capital of Canada...for you Ozzies we call this sand
By the way, spent many hours on BoxerWorks and other motorbike sites to "while away the days"...its fun and good medicine for recovery. Feeling stronger everyday...and...thank god my family doctor, during my annual physical in March, caught this cancer and my faith in the medical system looking after me in such a professional and timely manner and my wonderful wife, family and friends for their support.
On we go....hope to get a few more miles in yet!
Bob

Well done, Bob. Surviving is good. Riding a beloved bike is good.
You'd need some serious tools to build a sand castle on that beach. Canadians must be pretty tough.

I reckon Jeff should send you his peening hammer so you can make that a real sandy beach, stone by stone! That'll keep you busy. At least you'll have a daily reason to ride. It's about setting goals y'know!
Cheers, Steve

Says it all for me...that ride was a wonderful feeling!
Oh, by the way, we do have "sandy" beaches too...in fact where I live, the beach is 11.4kms long and is only 21 kms from the "flat stone" beach at Big Bay....peculiar geogrphy on the Bruce Penninsula...one side, sand beaches, other side, flat stone beaches and rugged cliffs...
Sauble Beach...and the old GS
For sand castle building at Flat Stone beach think you'd need a front end loader and jackhammer
This was what it was like back in early April....yikes...pretty damn cool

Re: My "Marker" Day....
Good on ya and congratulations on your recovery. I had the same "marker" after major surgery in 2000. I think I may be able to claim the State record for getting back on a bike after open-heart surgery. Never told my doc because I would undoubtedly have gotten chewed out but it sure made me feel good, same as you.
Re: My "Marker" Day....
Yep, congratulations! After my knee surgery it took almost two months before I could bend my knee past the 90 degrees it takes to ride my R75/5, so I rode around with it resting on the cylinder head. Hmmm, maybe those Harley guys are onto something with their foot forward riding position... NAAHHHHHH!!!!

Congratulations!
