Oh my. There was a tuner (was it Erv Kanemoto?) who said, "There must be something scary about finishing second that is scarier than all the terrible things they have to do to finish first." Seeing modern bikes mit modern frames, suspension, and tires shake their heads like a bad Gummikuh at twice the lean angle and four times the speed really puts that in my head.

Jeff, I can do the bit at 3:39 on a bicycle at one-tenth the speed.
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.
