Sunbeem is selling his R100RS and has these pannier frames to move on. If the squarish BMW touring bags fit them, I'm gonna get these frames from him. Can anyone please tell me what these pannier frames will fit? Krauser or BMW touring bags? Thanks.
Mine are the oem BMW touring bags common in the '80's. These frames came with a late '70's R100RS but the current owner hasn't mounted them so we're unsure exactly what they fit. I'd like to be certain before posting them.
My current bags and frames are like these...
I wasn't sure, so I asked my old shop manager. Old means both my shop and him too:-) He also isn't sure. Krauser had at least two variations and I don't know how many BMW had.
If you can weld, then buy them and do what it takes to make them work. Neither type was very strong and the racks cracked often. One could fix it and make it stronger, but it would just crack further along.
Seems to me that Reynolds made mounts to fit on that super strong luggage rack just for the Krauser bags. That was the luggage rack that pivoted backwards for the seat to open up.
I have a box of accessory information from that era that I hope to post sometime in the future. I would hope to shed some light on little known products of the time.

Thanks Duane. The pink dots show the normal crackpoints on these frames. Some points crack earlier than others. My current set has cracked where the front piece attaches to the mainframe on the right adjacent to the rear master cylinder area. See the black dots.
Resurrecting an old thread...I wonder how Sunbeem is
I'm wanting to id these Krauser racks.
They wouldn't fit on my 82 RS and I believe the same for a R90S because the upper rear protrusion interferes with the indicator stalks.
A BMW classic pannier bag appears to seat ok onto the frame. (hook latch bag v seatbelt tang though)
I've got a pair of those racks that were fitted to an '87 R80/7. The fitment was good save for the bit that was attached near the tail light where the PO made his own bracket to secure same. Seems it was not made for this year and model.
I have those mounted on my 60/6 Bought mine from re pscyle about 20 years ago. Mine also came with the rear rack. I had to order a part from Hepco Becker in order to mount the Krauser top case without drilling any holes. I've got the Starlet bags mounted on them
