Hydraulic lifts.

I've got one. It's a cheap second hand one, but it's great to have.
It goes up ok. It doesn't want to come down as it should.
It looks very similar if not an older version of this...http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360KG-AIR-or ... 4d32866724
It has a foot lever to pump it up and a smaller foot press to release it. The linkages seem a little loose and I usually wriggle them about and it'll eventually drop.
Any ideas on how I might fix this thang?

Did you check to see if it has adequate fluid?

It goes up ok and stays there. No leaks I can see. It's the release that doesn't work properly. I'm told there's a ball valve in there that might not be getting enough push. The linkage is loose. It's a w/e fix this w/e.

I got it down by hitting the linkage carefully with a broom stick, whilst keeping my foot on the lever. It came down very slowly, but it came down!

Fixed! The lock nut on the foot lever was loose so that the lever was too loose. It took longer to get it out and check it over than it did to fix!

I see that the Harbor Freight lift is about $400 now. A friend wants to buy one. How does he do better?

Tell him to apply this code when checking out: 29915397 (I just tried and the price went down to $329)

Pay less. I paid $200. The lifts are fine for bikes up to 600 pds IMO. But who would want a bike heavier than that? I wouldn't buy one for a commercial shop though.
