What would be entailed in converting the plastic airbox / breather on a 1981 R100 to the pre 1976 metal clam airbox? Strictly aesthetic reasons. Any draw backs to going about this?

The later air cleaners are easier to change... You will need a matching starter cover, different air tubes, and the clips for holding the two halves in place. The upper right transmission mount should be changed to a stud and 12mm nut arrangement; there won't be enough room for an allan wrench on the original bolt. The breather tube would need re-routing as well, or you could plumb in a catch can.
