Hi Gents , I've seen a similar mod using two 30v 5a diodes and a switch to create a hazard flash option on systems without that facility. That takes it's power from the lamp side of the flasher relay with a switch inline then it links to the RH indicators side via a diode 30v 5A and same for LH side...

I dont claim to be an expert on these boxes but having just rebuilt mine i think you will be very lucky to get the endcover off without some tool to pull the output shaft flange off its taper , you could be one of the lucky ones who find the taper is not super tight to remove . Thanks for that fix , cant see why it would not work. changing the subject slightly but sticking with diodes , i came across this fix in the headlamp shell to bypass the diode on the fuse/connector board in headlamp should the diode on the board go , you can see that a jumper cable has been made up ...

In the interim I will dig up a wiring diagram , I think there is a link to one on Snowbums web site .

Might try Motoworks for a used cassette of the 1982 version with the bigger spikes on the cam that is supposed to eliminate the false neutrals of the earlier shift cams.
