Re: Valeo Starter - Tight Motor
You say fresh motor, does that mean a rebuild? If so, did the engine turn over easy to set valves etc.? Connections on starter tight? Was the starter refreshed?

Re: Bosch starter motor
Just overhauled both the Spanish Bosch out of my '84 R80RT and the Valero out of my '95 R100R. The Bosch is a lot stouter build and I have swapped them out. I put the Bosch in my long term R100R.

Starter Relays
I have the Valero starter out of my '95 completely torn apart for overhaul, because it never cranked as fast as the Bosch in the '84 even after swapping batteries. The back end dismantle is a real pain on the Valero and other parts don't seem that robust compared to the Bosch. I am seriously thinkin...

Re: Fuel injection
I noticed a post in the BMWMOA airhead forum where a guy just got a Luftmeister fuel injection system and is looking for installation instructions. Probably the lucky purchaser, depending on your point of view. I always liked the airheads because of their simplicity. It's nice not having to worry ab...

Re: Fuel injection
If you are still interested in fuel injection, I saw this ad for the Luftmeister system where he is asking $200.

Re: '84 R80RT Idle Drop ++SOLVED++
I tried new O-rings and setting richer mixture settings and it did not improve the idle drop. But all the messing with the mixture and throttle stop settings I decided to set up my balancer and check out the sync. What I noticed was when then balancer was hooked up there was no fluctuation in the RP...

Re: '84 R80RT Idle Drop
This is the interesting statement to me........ " as it can stall when it drops too low while shifting." If I set the idle at 900 and was riding up to a stop sign and had the clutch in the engine would quite often stall when the idle did a dip before returning to the 900 setting. That is ...

'84 R80RT Idle Drop
New to me '84 R80RT. I am having a slight issue with the idle speed that momentarily drops about 250 RPM's, after driving under load, before returning to the set idle speed. The bike runs up to red line very smooth and strong and she does not miss a beat. She will idle at 900 no problem until she re...
