I'd remove the gasket, especially if it was ok without it. I'd wager it'll be fine then.

I am assuming you have the cover with two o-rings, correct? If so, then the paper gasket is not needed and can cause the problem you describe. Check the large o-ring carefully for any nicks or cuts when you pull it off, and that the shim that goes between it and the case has its sharp edges, if any, on the inboard side. This o-ring is under a lot of pressure and can fail at any damaged area.

Mine has only ever had a metal spacer and then the rubber O-ring. I always replace the O-ring with a new one every filter change.

Ok laid bike on it's side. Thankfully I have next to no fuel in the tank. Seal battery too. So no risk of fluid leaks.

Took the paper gasket out. Put cover back on. Nearly broke my back lifting the bike back up right. Started it up and the oil light came on for just a few secs then went out. Bike at idle and the oil light does not come on/flicker at all now.

Thank you Boxerworks collective for your cyber help. :D

Ah right, I'm guessing the second o-ring is for bikes with oil coolers. Cool! Glad you've got it fixed.

When mine ran the 1000 bottom end with oil cooler it only had one rubber o-ring.

+1 to that, Wow, I'm glad that you got that sorted Ross, not good with low oil press up Thunderbolts Way.
I have a small prob with startmoter, it's ok cold, but hot it sometimes does'nt engage so I'll pull it out in the morning
and clean it up.
Looking forward to catching up with you.
Regards, Bob
