Yeah, they have an aircooled pushrod motor that they gave to a custom builder last year. There was some speculation that there was some sort of retro heavyweight bike in the works. Here's the custom:

Re: 1.8 litre airhead?
Looking at the original article from Motorrad oinline, it would appear that this is, at best, a speculative account and that the picture is photoshop. That being said, I read the article in a 'Google Translate' translation so it wasn't all that clear... but phrases like ' Our draftsman Stefan Kraft picked up the pen and drew the new BMW Cruiser.' and 'This story is of course fictitious, but has a serious background.' are pretty conclusive in any language.
Interesting concept but will it happen?

They will have a try I think. Let's wait and see.
Re: 1.8 litre airhead?
Apparently the same engine, presented via another interpretation, but destined for a cruiser. Interesting marketing tactic.

BMW will present a series production motorcycle with the Big Boxer for the Cruiser segment in the course of 2020.

Prolly won't look so cool when it has all the indicators and other stuff stuck all over it.

Apparently this version -which for some reason they are calling R18/2- will be the first version to make it to production:

Mmmmm sexy. If you go for that sort of thing.
For me, it helps that they painted it red.
