Yep. I got the trans out. That screw is tight. There's a bit more dirt and a little moisture on the shelf under the RMS than I wanted to see. Spline looks ok. Dry, needs some moly.
Clutch or trans?

Re: Clutch or trans?
The drip gutter is thin sheet metal. The part found looks to thick for that...but it's pretty mangled. The original image has a ruler beside it which I'm assuming is metric which is where I get the size of about 20mm. I would be very reluctant to hazard a guess on what it is but given the other symptoms of slippage, I think it's a fair bet there's something pretty fundamentally wrong with the box...

Steve check your Private message.
Re: Clutch or trans?
Looks like something that was intentionally put in the gearbox.
Re: Clutch or trans?
I have a disassembled gearbox and I dont see anything that could end up like that inside.
Re: Clutch or trans?
It sure looks unusual. This trans was renovated ~ 140Kkm back. The bikes done ~ 275Kkm now. It's worked beautifully since. It's been securely parked in my shed during our lockdown.

Re: Clutch or trans?
Have you discovered what's causing the (lack of) transmission problem yet?

Not yet Rob
Work is in the way at the moment.
Spline looks fine, just dry.
Looking at the length of the flat swarf, I'm wondering if an edge of one of the gears has snapped off and as it was being processed to its current size and shape if there wasn't a partial lock of the gears? I had the clutch in pdq and there was a momentary jolt of the bike then it settled.

Re: Clutch or trans?
I would think it would have gear marks all over it if it was being "run thru the mill"!
