Dangerous brake line

I was puzzeled that I couldn’t pull my bike backwards. I overhauled the calipers an was about to start changing the wheelbearings when I saw the real reason. The brake line was dragging on the front wheel! When going backwards the brake line would get more tension and would tighten up its grip on the tire.
I’m so glad it didn’t wear a hole in the pipe! I could have had an accident.

I guess you need to do a careful inspection of the entire machine.

Yeah, I know! Quite shocked to find such a timebomb on my bike! I’m making new ones tomorrow and making sure to secure it properly.

Indeed! Bit by bit for safety and reliability. I guess this shows that if you find something unusual on your bike, examine it! Find out why!

I'd just replace that part. There's likely some unseen fatigue somewhere. The day before I found this, I was riding thru one of my favourite go fast roads. Luckily it was in heavy fog, so it was a go slow road that day. The next morning, I overshot a stop sign because the brakes failed...literally missed the back of a bus by countersteering... :shock:

New parts here is cheap insurance, both bike and health!

Not really a fan of that 'over the wheel' brake line but there must have been an event that forced it down into contact with the tyre. The pipes are (should be) quite rigid and run close under the mudguard. My reservations have always been about damage from debris thrown up by the tyre, never seen the fault you have...

Maybe that's why BMW put the line above the fender on my Mystic.
I assume all the bikes with the Showa forks are the same.

Very spooky indeed! Glad you managed to avoid the bus! I know I could easily have been in a similar situation or worse!

I believe you are right about road debris must be to blame.

Nice! I wish I had this! Safer although my malfunction is uncommon.

Earlier (pre Mono) machines have two seperate flexible lines, once to each caliper, which to my mind is a much better arrangement. I'm very tempted to retro fit a similar arrangement to my 'Mono

Similar--I saw the crossover on my son's Mono and wondered about retrofitting dual lines. He's going to be changing so much on that cafe project that it will be no big deal.

That also must be a pain in the ass to bleed.
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.
