Ka'Ohe Game Management Area

Post by Deleted User 62 »

I was looking for a reason to do some more off pavement riding this last weekend and ended up here: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=19 ... 17&vpsrc=6 Up a very steep road, lots of pea gravel and corduroy, but not a problem. The ride back down was a bit more interesting, almost bit the dust (literally) when I went wide in a tight turn to avoid some rocks and plowed into a berm of powder. Front wheel was pointed left, but I kept going straight! Managed to wobble my way out of it... Anyway, the cabin is on public land around 1000' above the highway: Image What's interesting is this grove of evergreen trees, rare on the islands: Image Back at the highway, you can see the biggest grove of trees as a bump on the horizon, between the sign and the telephone pole in this picture: Image I picked up a couple of the giant pine cones and headed on home: Image Hope you enjoyed!

My best riding memories were on dirt roads - on the R65, of course!

I also like to see where a boxer 'can't' get.
I don't get to see much.
I enjoy your off road trips Tim, and would like to find some big cones witjaman!

Zoom out on the Google Earth link and you'll see lots of big cones to the right (cinder cones, that is...) This grove is on the border fence between cattle country, upper left, and national forest land, right, and the states hunting ground. I saw plenty quail on the way up, but no hunters.
