I was looking for a reason to do some more off pavement riding this last weekend and ended up here:

The ride back down was a bit more interesting, almost bit the dust (literally) when I went wide in a tight turn to avoid some rocks and plowed into a berm of powder. Front wheel was pointed left, but I kept going straight! Managed to wobble my way out of it... Anyway, the cabin is on public land around 1000' above the highway:

What's interesting is this grove of evergreen trees, rare on the islands:

Back at the highway, you can see the biggest grove of trees as a bump on the horizon, between the sign and the telephone pole in this picture:

I picked up a couple of the giant pine cones and headed on home:
