Compared to a /2 yes. Compared to current technology, not.Chuey wrote:Yes, those brakes are phenomenal!

The RS fairing helps in regards to concealment.

I don't know if you noticed the first post. He's talking about an 1150RT. That is a modern bike and has some phenomenal brakes.Zombie Master wrote:Compared to a /2 yes. Compared to current technology, not.Chuey wrote:Yes, those brakes are phenomenal!

If "current technology" means the K1600 or other current offerings, I don't know how the R1150RT would compare. Probably a bit slower in the braking department I would think. But, she still will most definitely STOP quickly when asked.

It's just a WAG, but I would guess that the R1150RT can actually out stop the K1600 by a little. The brakes on the K aren't that much better than the 1150, and it's WAY heavier.CVA-42 wrote:If "current technology" means the K1600 or other current offerings, I don't know how the R1150RT would compare. While the K has better brakes, like I say, they aren't that much better, whereas the 1150's brakes are a quantum leap above the Airhead brakes.
(note: although, I seem to remember that the early 1150's have the linked brakes that weren't too popular and BMW later ditched, so that could make a difference)

Re: Linked brakes
My '08 R1200R has linked brakes (not to be confused with the "power brakes" on some oilheads). When you apply the front brake, it automatically applies the rear brake too. Took some getting used to. I wouldn't have bought the bike that way if it was new but it came with ABS and a boatload of other stuff for a damn good price. So here I am on a bike with ABS and linked brakes. But let me tell you, mash on the brake, and that baby stops!!!! Right now!Major Softie wrote:While the K has better brakes, like I say, they aren't that much better, whereas the 1150's brakes are a quantum leap above the Airhead brakes.

Unlike my /2 conversion. Mash on the brake, and you can tell you not going as fast as before.

Yeah, it was the power brakes I was thinking of.Steve in Golden wrote: My '08 R1200R has linked brakes (not to be confused with the "power brakes" on some oilheads).
