Had this issue on my 1978 R100S. The rear brake light would work only occasionally. Checked proper operation and brake pedal contact, power to the tail lamp, bulb function. Hosed it with electronic parts cleaner spray, burned incense, chanted...
Bought new switch. It's all good.

Re: So 22mm = 7/8" according to...
Flanders most definitely sells BMW handlebars in 22mm. Stock OEM bends and a few custom designs. Prices Are not terribly expensive either. Shipping add on. When I acquired my 1978 R100S, it had extremely wide low bars -kind of a street tracker look- and painted black. Pretty fugly. Plus, the cables ...

Re: Formal Introductions From a New Airhead
I agree with the Major. One of my Airheads exhibited the same symptoms. No issues until high gear and asking the Bings to pull a high vacuum. New diaphragms cured all. Tiny pin holes and/or all but invisible cracks will cause this. Your description of the problem leads me to believe it's not a fuel ...

Re: Final Drive Vent Cap
IIRC, I dabbed a bit on both inside and outside locations as mentioned. Pushed it in place, removed it to check for goop contact and venting allowance, then tucked it in. Works fine. It's an unstressed component.

Modern cardan gaskets are thicker now than the original paper thin ones. Replacing it will most likely require re-shimming. How much thicker are the cardan gaskets vs. paper at the proper torque? The shims only come in .05mm increments from 1.5mm up to 2.5mm on the Max BMW site. It may be thicker o...

The pinch bolt/screw for the perch captures that danged pricey wedge. Most new-to-Airhead owners lose this item and may eventually crack the perch casting. Mother Magura eventually altered the design of the perch which eliminated he need for giving yourself a wedgie... As I discovered when I purchas...

Careful use of a toothpick application of JB Weld secured the cap on my 1981 R65 seven years ago. Still securely in place. Still venting.

A Ranier beer can with the ends cut off fits perfectly over the splines too. You should remove the cover and replace the gasket. It comes off easily...you thread in 2 screws to pull it off, there are threaded holes provided for this purpose. Most first-timers miss the two threaded holes that assist...
