Re: Needle Jet/Jet Needle Replacement ?
Yes, probably going to do that soon on Ernst. Over 30K miles on needle jet and needle and MPG is stuck on 40. Although part of that might be the very bulky Aerostich jacket. The springtime weather is improving and I wore the much slimmer Alpinestars jacket today. Although today's miles were with pil...

Re: Crankshaft sprocket removal question.
Yes, quite possible to remove the crank sprocket with the engine installed. Even easier with the fork off the bike! Or at least pull the front wheel and fender. I have a hot plate, saucepan, and some motor oil for heating the sprocket for install. If done right, it will slide on 99% of the way and y...

Re: 10 years later........
Yes, I've used the Loctite Sleeve Retainer in an application like that. It works best when it's a press fit that has deteriorated to a slip fit. It may not work if the slip fit has become a rattle fit.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the early centerstands will hit that.

Re: Deep Oil Pan
I've got pans like this on my R75/6 and my R100RS and will likely get one for my R100/7 sometime: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/nBoAAOSwraljofm5/s-l650.jpg https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/HQcAAOSwt5pjofnK/s-l650.jpg They clear the centerstands just fine. Two crossbars on the stands on these bikes. I...

Re: 1978 R100RS Fork lowers query
Indeed, a curious one. I've got five different forks from 1975 to 1979 here at the house and they're all consistent with your left side.

Re: E5/E10 Petrol
In this country, there was often summer gas (E0) and winter gas (E10), particularly in urban areas. This was to give everyone a lean mixture in the winter time to reduce carbon monoxide emissions. Mind you, this only really worked on carbureted vehicles. Fuel injected vehicles (at least the 99% of t...

Re: Couple issues, maybe normal
Yes, I'm at two odometer failures now. I've got a guy who fixes that problem, restores the housing, and recalibrates the speedo so it's within 3% of actual, instead of reading 10% to 15% high. Old stuff doing old stuff things!

Re: Couple issues, maybe normal
My 1978 R100/7 has some vibes under load under 3K rpm. But I'd also found that it doesn't charge consistently under 3K rpm--when my son was a new rider I was shifting at 3K to keep him in the mirrors. This eventually drained the battery. So for both those reasons things are much better over 3K rpm. ...
