Re: Replacing R100 oil filter canister
The filter was actually installed with a shim when I bought the bike. I'll measure the depth when I get back to whe workshop. If I'm not mistaken I should be aiming for about 20% compression. At first I was quite worried about the pitting on the edge of the canister. However, like Rob says, I belie...

You're there...probably the best time to measure the canister depth so you know what pieces/parts to get. IMO.

Re: Differences in Airhead speedometer housings
I suppose the dates can be a bit fuzzy. My 9/77 build R100/7 has the turn signal at the top.

Re: Differences in Airhead speedometer housings
I offered some thoughts on the other Vintage forum. I'm wondering if the change was for the 1978 models with the electronic tach.

Re: Starting a '68 R50/2
Am I missing something in the adjustment of the carbs, timing or valves? Probably IMO. Sounds like you need to start over and redo them. Carb synch is important as well. Do you have the original coil? A solid state coil might help things, although mostly the older coils makes things harder to start...

Re: New chap with a question about scissor lifts
Welcome! My opinion is also to not lift the bike by the pan. I'm not so concerned about the gasket but the possibility of damage to the pan.
Can't say as I've heard of this lift. I searched this forum, the MOA forum, and ADV...no hits on lifts by Sealey.

For my money, I would go with genuine parts. You're dealing with a critical element of getting fuel to the carb and it working correctly. Another member opted for something cheaper and the discussion was here:

Re: R75/6 Stubborn Steering Column
Not sure what the "adjuster nutes" are. Certainly the top yoke and large nuts have to be loosened. The lower yoke has nuts on the pincher parts of the yoke. It might be necessary to spread the lower yokes open...use a thin wedge of wood and gently hammer into the gap to expand.

Re: R1200RT clutch bite point moves out
Far from me to know anything about these later machines, but I read this on the MOA forum: https://forums.bmwmoa.org/threads/2013-1200-gs-lc-clutch-engagement.100419/ What comes to mind is the hydraulic slave cylinder that needs some service. The link also mentions something about a "fix" ...
