On the ribbed rear drives that I have, they have a steel sleeve surrounding the stud. The sleeve is 15mm in diameter and sits proud about 1.5mm of the spot faced surface allowed for the shock.
Garnet is right. Though, mine will look a bit different. I'll share a picture when it is further along.

PS (edit) Any guesses as to what the structure is made of?

Thanks, Garnet and Stephan. That's what I needed to know. Onward!
By the way, those three pictures were very inspirational!

Re: Rear drive question:
Is it just me, or does the lower mount for that shock look like a failure waiting to happen? The shock should be mounted in line with the U-shaped piece, IMO.Garnet wrote:

You mean more like what Vanzen did or is doing. I hope he doesn't mind me posting the photo from his site. It is available for anyone to see on his site.Tim Shepherd wrote: Is it just me, or does the lower mount for that shock look like a failure waiting to happen? There's more on his site.

Re: Rear drive question:
That's better still, but if it was mine I'd want it in line with the brace, not attached to the top of it.
